A couple more observations

  • The Packers made two mistakes that won't show up on the stat sheet that ultimately turned a "W" into an "L."  Actually, the Packers  made the same mistake, twice.  On seperate plays, Nick Collins and Aaron Rodgers each tried to scoop up a fumble rather than just falling on the ball.  If either one of those guys makes the smart play, the Packers probably win.  That's how narrow the difference between a win and a loss can be.
  • Weird officiating moment.  On the extra point after the Packers' first touchdown, Carolina lined up unbalanced to the left.  The ref shouted "get over" at one of the players and went up and smacked the guy on the ass.  What's going on?  Is there a rule about lining up unbalanced?  And, if so, shouldn't the ref have thrown a flag rather than smacking the guy on the ass to get him to shift over?

UPDATE: PackerAaron's explanation:

He was telling him he couldn't be lined up dead over the center. Which is fine, except the Packers were flagged for that very infraction last year in the first Bear game. (I think it was Corey Williams) The refs usually do what the ref did today - no idea why it just happened to be called that one time last year.

  1. DDD - Noticed that as well. He was telling him he couldn't be lined up dead over the center.
